Ready your Car for the Spring
By: coppeneur
The pavements are now plowed out of snow. Early signs of greens are showing on trees. The wind chill has given way to more sun. It is spring! And it is time to ready your car after the onslaught of winter. This article has been prepared with you in mind, who would like to know essential car care tips to keep that car of yours in top shape, with the change of seasons.
EXTERIOR
The first thing that you must do is to generously soap up your car, making it squeaky clean from the snow, salt and other elements that are reminders of the season past. It would be best if you use a pressure washer, especially if you make your car plow on the mud, sleet and the snow in the winter.
Now if you are more generous than usual, you might want to indulge your car paint with spa treatment. Yes, you have read it right. Spa treatments are not only for humans, but our priced cars as well. What is a car pain spa? It is a treatment that involves scraping off road tar, environmental pollutants, and other grit and grime that must have been accumulated in the course of your daily drive, and polishing your car surface to make it resistant to new grime, rust or corrosion.
Springtime polish is also one service offered in most car detailing shops. This reinforces your car’s original paint if its relatively new or restores your old car paint to its original condition. The springtime polish consists of a multi-stage system of thoroughly cleaning, compounding and finally polishing and sealing the paint in.
Not only your car paint needs cleaning. Give some time for cleaning your car’s aluminum wheels to remove brake dust and road slurry.
Run your hands on your wheels too to see if there are any damage to it. If you notice some bent, depending on the condition you might need to have it straightened for a nominal fee or have a replacement although it might cost more. See also underneath your car, and remove the mud and accumulated dirt that may have caked there, after many months of not being cleaned.
Caution though in spraying water under the hood. It would cost you a huge amount of money for repairs if water gets into places where it shouldn’t be.
MECHANICAL
Have the required oil change and switch to your all-season or summer-only tires. It is time for your winter tires to rest. At your local garage, do the standard checks on your car’s cooling and electrical charging systems. As temperatures go up, your cooling system might have a harder time coping with the demand. A thorough check would keep surprises at bay this way.
INTERIOR
The winter may have left salt, mud and grime on your carpeting and even on the car seats. Or worse, your car’s interior might be looking short of a pig sty by now. It’s time to deodorize and clean your floors and seats. And dry the damp parts of your car’s interiors. You may ask for steam cleaning service from your preferred detail shops..
Stick a new car freshener in your car. When done, your car is as good as new.
