There are a lot of factors that determine and affect the cost of your auto insurance, and these include the car that you drive and the place where you reside.  When it comes to the type of car that you drive, most auto insurance companies consider your car’s  theft rate.  Is your car the type that is most likely to be stolen or the ones that attract most of the car thieves?  If your vehicle is among the cars that is in the list of mostly stolen vehicles, then most auto insurance companies will most likely charge you with a much higher auto insurance rate.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), a non-profit organization, keeps track of the mostly stolen vehicles in the United States by keeping count of the cars that are reported stolen by law enforcement departments and agencies every year.

If you are considering buying a car or have a car on your own, here is a helpful list that can help you decide what car is most likely to be stolen or help you be cautious if your car is one of them.  Here is a list of the current top 10 mostly stolen vehicles in the United States as issued by the National Insurance Crime Bureau:

1995 Honda Civic

1989 Toyota Camry

1991 Honda Accord

1994 Dodge Caravan

1994 Chevrolet Full Size C/K 1500 Pickup

1997 Ford F150 Series

2003 Dodge Ram Pickup

1990 Acura Integra

1988 Toyota Pickup

1991 Nissan Sentra

Studies made by the NICB reveals that 1,237,114 vehicles were reported stolen in 2004, a decrease of 23,357 vehicles from the figures in 2003. While this decrease in auto theft is a positive sign, it still means that a vehicle is stolen in the U.S every 25.5 seconds.

Protect Your Car if it is High on the List

There are a lot of measures and practices you can apply to help safeguard your vehicle from being stolen, even from the most seasoned thief. It is highly important for drivers to protect their cars by installing devices such as alarms, steering wheel locks, fuel disablers, cut-off switches, and tracking devices that give the police officials the location of a the stolen car. Not only could they save your vehicle from being stolen or help police officials find it if it is, but they could also lower your auto insurance costs. Try to consider this: can you imagine what you would do without your car for even a week? Don’t let these professional thieves profit and gain from the car you depend on to get you to all the places you need to go.
