Three Insurance Rate-Changing Life Events
By: AutoInsuranceGuyThere are three possible events in your life that, believe it or not, can have an effect on your auto insurance. These events are: 1)Getting married; 2)getting divorced; and 3)retiring. You might ask just how exactly, and when you passed these you might have not noticed, but they do, sometimes significantly increasing or decreasing your car insurance rate.
1) Getting married
Apart from being a new beginning to a completely new life, amidst all the excitement, getting married can actually reduce your auto insurance rate once you realize it. If both you and your spouse have a car, and you have children and they become old enough to drive their own cars, you can have them all under one multi-policy insurance, and you can receive a discount! Also, it helps to have a very frugal spouse to nag you to look for lower insurance rates and better coverage. :)
2) Widowed or divorced
Getting widowed or divorced is a truly turbulent time for someone who has just lost his/her spouse. To add to your troubles, this might result in an insurance rate increase. Especially if you have young children, this means you'd have to drive around a lot more than usual. If both you and your spouse have jobs, the loss of the extra income might make this sting even harder.
But it's not something you can't do anything about. If your insurer's rates get too expensive for you, consider shopping around for more affordable auto insurance. You may also consider raising your deductibles or getting rid of your comprehensive and collission coverage. This can greatly reduce your insurance rate.
3) Retiring
You are finally done with work. Now is the time to look back at your accomplishments, reflect, feel proud, and most importantly, take a well-deserved rest. What better way to spend an extended vacation than to spend it with family and friends? Since you don't have to go to work anymore, you have more quality time to spend, and less need to take your car around, which results in a lower insurance rate. Because your annual mileage will drop, your rate will definitely decrease. If you had more than one car, you'd probably find that you don't need more than one, and once you reduce to one car not only will you save on auto insurance but you'll also be saving on gas.
But even if you're not going through any of these events, it's never a bad idea to look around for better deals. It's always good to have a little extra cash, so shop around for auto insurance quotes.
