With the economy in the current state it is in many people are looking for ways to cut back and save some money. Many are choosing to go with an insurance company with a lower rate. This is a great way to save. Unfortunately, many are so concerned with the quote that I do not take a good look at the policy and small print. Is saving a few bucks really worth it if you end up with a skimpy policy? It might look good on paper but is it really going cover you when you need it? You do not want to realize you ended up with a nonsense auto insurance policy after you have been in an accident. The good news is that buying auto insurance is pretty easy if you know what steps to take.

Driving around without auto insurance might seem like the cheapest route but it is not. Most states require you by law to have at minimum liability coverage. If you are caught without it you will end up with a hefty ticket to pay and the possibility of having your licenses revoked.

Your credit rating impacts everything now a days including your auto insurance. Keep your credit score up by paying your bills on time.

Driving under a certain amount of miles per year may put you in the low mileage discount bracket. Talk to your auto insurance company to find out what their requirements are.

Another way to save on auto insurance is by maintaining a clean driving record for a certain period of time. This may qualify you for a "safe driver" discount.

Buy a low risk car.

Insurance companies rate cars on the risk factor. If you own a sports car you will end up paying more for the same auto insurance then someone who owns a sedan.
