Ways to Save Money on Your Car Insurance
By: mindif
There are more uninsured drivers out there than ever before. This is a disturbing fact. Most car insurance laws are regulated by each individual State. Every State says it is mandatory to have at least basic coverage. It is careless to not purchase car insurance and in the long run can do you more harm than good. Most States will eventually suspend your plates or your drivers license and they will fine you as well. It may end up costing you more than if you had purchased insurance.
It is good sense to shop around and get several quotes from several different carriers. There is so much competition for your business, you can often negotiate and get a decent rate. It is important to be knowledgeable about what is required in your State. It is also vital to understand what insurance coverage you need in case of an accident.
There are several ways that can help you save money and be more cost efficient when purchasing insurance.
- Negotiate and review your options. If you are renewing your policy, don’t be complacent. Check to see what is new with the competition. You may be surprised by going with a different carrier you may be offered a better rate with more options. See if your current carrier is able to offer you any better incentives.
- Keep your car in good working order and safe. Maintain your car by getting regular oil changes and tune ups. Garaging your car can add a lower premium and adding additional safety features as well.
- Maintain a good driving record. Be sure to follow speed limits and safety laws. This will ensure you do not receive a speeding ticket and lower your chances of an accident. Both of these items can increase your premium. On the other hand, some companies offer incentives to drivers with long standing clean records.
- Pay the entire premium in one lump sump. When you renew or purchase your policy, most likely you will be offered 3 amounts. The lowest being a one time payment. Then it might be 3 payments and monthly payments. If you can afford to pay all at once this will offer you a savings.
- Change your deductible to a higher amount. If in an accident, this means you will have to be a little more out of pocket. However, it will mean a lower premium on the front end.
Be smart when purchasing or renewing your automobile insurance. Saving money can be smart as long as you have the coverage you need.
