Shopping experience in the States can be rivaled by that in most of Asian cities. But it is undeniable that we can just stay here and still have much to get from all the shopping sales in the outlet stores, state per state, year round! And with shopping comes parking! Here are a few tips we have come up for you to make your shopping AND parking experience less of a hassle, so that you can just spend your energy getting that nice tee, or the latest Levi’s from the rack.

Don’t leave your defensive driving skills on the road

How many times have you read in the news that a pedestrian has been run down in a parking lot. How does that happen? When driving around the parking lot will at best allow you to drive at 20 mph? Sure it does happen. Because some drivers, in their eagerness to park their car, forget their defensive driving skills, almost oblivious to the moving pedestrians in the parking lot or to other cars that are either looking for spaces to park or are preparing to leave the area. Going around the parking lot for about 20 minutes or more can really be irritating, but don’t let the heat come to your head. Just play your excitement to shop down, and wait for your turn to get a parking space. Sooner or later, one will be available anyway.

Once you leave the parking lot as well, check for people or cars behind you. Don’t be in a hurry. Haste makes waste, as they say. In short, don’t leave your responsible driving skills on the road. Bring it to the parking lot as well.

Precautions for women drivers

Statistics say that the parking lot is one of the most dangerous spots for a lone, female driver. Why’s that?  These are common places where women are attacked or abducted, especially in desolate and darker parts of the parking area of grocery stores and shopping centers. A few points should be remembered if you are a lone female going back to your car in the parking lot.

Avoid distractions. Most attackers look for their prey who are distracted, let’s say someone who searches for her mobile phone in her bag, or someone who is talking on the phone. Look at your car and the surrounding area where it is parked. See anything strange? If unsure, ask someone like a guard or grocery bagger to go with you in the parking lot.

Keep the distance to a stranger in a dark area, if you are walking past them.

Enter the passenger’s door if you are parked infront of a truck.  And if there is a man that seats alone in a car on either side of your car, go back  to the store and just return later, or ask someone to accompany you to the parking lot.

Before getting into your car, give a thorough check on the sides of your car, the back seat, and even under the car. It would also be helpful if you have had installed safety systems such as mechanical or electronic immobilizers in your car, which will keep intruders and thieves at bay.

Steer clear of valuables that can be seen through your windows. Stow away these valuables like laptops, mobile phones, bags, money and other important items in your trunk or below your car seat.

Follow these tips. May your next trip to the shopping center a breeze and hassle-free.
