Teenage Drunk Driving and Its Impact On Car Insurance Rates
According to the latest statistics, there are 6,000 teenagers were killed on fatal car crashes every year and these adolescents doesn’t feel that they are more likely vulnerable. Almost 30% of teen fatalities involves alcohol which acquires more number of fatalities and car crash incidence than those drivers who are in their 30s.
Why these things happen? Probably, they don’t want their friends to be pissed off by refusing to get in the car or they are maybe scared to call their parents to have a safe ride home, these incidence are more likely the reasons.
Absence attitude among our teens is one of the main problem which every parents could take an immediate steps to encourage every teen drivers to drive larger cars or SUVs with more safety features. Parents must also take an immediate response and encourage most teens to drive more safely like setting a night curfews which prevent young drivers from driving at night were severe teen fatal crashes occur.
Most states in the U.S. lowered the legally drunk blood alcohol limit from .10 to .08 and every states also raised their drinking ages to 21 years old. As the 1995 National Traffic Safety Administration NTSA report showed that raising the legal drinking ages essentially reduced car crashes among teenagers which has 13 percent decrease for all ages.
Car collision brought by teens or ’drunk teens’ make the auto insurance rates tremendously high. Some of the insurance agents will probably advice you not to file a claim and fix the vehicle yourself. But as a policyholder, it is your duty to report any damage or losses to your insurance provider otherwise they will not cover the damages brought by the incidence.
In the event of teen car collision especially when there is a passenger involved, filing a claim is essentially viable. In case the parents of the passenger or another teen wants their kid to be hospitalized, they will probably file a bodily injury claim against you which you may end up not having pay for the medical bills.
Series of relative events is also significant because if the teenage driver was under the influence of alcohol when the incidence happen the car insurance company will probably cancel or not even renew your teen insurance policy.
However, if you simply hit the garage door when unloading some groceries and brought minor scratches to your vehicle, you must probably fix the vehicle yourself. Because once a claim is reported, it will be reported to the underwriting department and they will warn you regardless if the insurance provider covers the damages or not.
When your teen is the only one involved on a car crash and only minor damages occur which you can pay out your pocket, it is recommended not to report the incidence to your insurance company. However, if a third party or another passenger/s involved, it is better to call your insurance provider and report a claim even if the rates go up.
